Mari Vineyards founder Marty Lagina made the (some would say) crazy choice to grow grapes that shouldn't grow in Michigan, with the belief that he could produce world class wines that otherwise couldn't be made here. So, true to his Italian heritage, he planted exotic varieties like Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and others. Combined with a little creative grape growing and a lot of attention, today his dream has become a reality. Along with classic area grapes like Cabernet Franc and Merlot, Mari Vineyards produces a wide variety of red wines unlike anything else produced in Michigan.
Building on the success of their first vintage, Mari Vineyards now has over 60 acres of vineyards planted entirely on the Old Mission Peninsula, with more being added every year. Their wines are already available in Traverse City area stores and restaurants, and their brand new winery and tasting room is now complete on Old Mission Peninsula. Until you get a chance to visit, they invite you to explore our website and learn more about their truly unique and exciting Michigan wines!
Magnum Lignum has created a number of custom pieces for Mari Vineyards, including a 10’ long rolling bar for the tasting room. This piece consists of a 10’ long, 36” wide live edge ash slab top. We have included epoxy inlays of the Mari peninsula logo, creating an amazing addition to an already incredible tasting room. We also created a small rolling bar using a combination of live edge walnut and ash.
This sofa table is crafted with a beautiful quilted maple top, and spalted maple legs. The piece is 16" wide x 90" long, with two drawers and an open shelf. Two coats of catalyzed varnish give the finish the look of sunlight on water.
We have a nearly unlimited supply of unique lumber to work with at Magnum Lignum, and we use many of these pieces to create one-of-a-kind charcuterie and serving boards. These pieces are works of natures’ art and will enhance any gathering. We use live edge pieces as well as creating standard and custom shapes on our CNC router table. Many of our boards incorporate epoxy fills, adding a splash of color and resulting in a beautiful blended finish. All of our charcuterie boards are finished with food safe cutting board oil.
Nestled in a cozy space in one of the amazing buildings on the Village at Grand Traverse Commons, Bird’s Eye Design is run by Kelsea Houghton, who uses a holistic approach to her designs. Magnum Lignum has teamed up with Birdseye Design and Kingsley Lumber to use a team approach in providing cutting edge design utilizing locally sourced, salvaged lumber. We recently delivered this 10’-8” long conference table made of two pieces of book-matched white pine, along with a 66” long hemlock desk. The table is supported with a beautiful arch trestle underneath.
In addition we built a custom desk using spalted maple slabs and epoxy to create a very unique work station.
Our quarter-sawn white oak coffee and end table set consists of one 24"x40" coffee table and two 24"x24" end tables. These tables will fit well in nearly any decor. Their slender legs provide elegance and strength.
Magnum Lignum was commissioned by the Wood’s to create several custom pieces for their summer home. These included a pair of dovetailed walnut sofa tables, a live-edge maple coffee table and bench.
